Russ has been writing original music for more than 45 years, alongside a successful career as a live performer and entertainer. His songs have received airplay on BBC radio and numerous independent stations, and he has also composed music for a theatre production at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre, directed by Steve Haythorne.
Over the decades, Russ built an extensive catalogue of original material, including hundreds of demos, song ideas, and unfinished recordings. While many remained archived for years, advances in music technology have allowed him to revisit and realise their full potential.
Today, with more time to dedicate to songwriting and access to powerful digital audio workstations (DAWs), Russ has transformed many of these recordings into polished, radio-ready productions.
"Technology has completely changed the way I create music," says Russ. "When smartphones arrived, I could instantly record melodies and ideas wherever inspiration struck, rather than rushing home to find a pen and paper. Software such as GarageBand and Logic Pro then made it possible to produce high-quality demos from my own studio.
"Now, with the emergence of AI-assisted tools, I can restore, enhance and refine recordings that were originally created decades ago. I don't believe AI should replace creativity, but when used as a tool, it's been invaluable in helping me bring older songs up to modern production standards while preserving the heart and soul of the original performances."
